Former MP M V Rajeev Gowda has been appointed as Deputy Chairman of the State Institute for Transformation of Karnataka (SITK) by the state government.
It is formerly known as the Karnataka State Policy and Planning Commission, the institute plays a pivotal role in the state’s development. This appointment reflects the government’s commitment to fostering progress under the leadership of the chief minister.
As outlined in an official government order, Gowda holds a Cabinet-rank ministerial position in his role as Deputy Chairman. Operating within the framework of the Department of Planning, Program Monitoring, and Statistics, the State Institute for Transformation of Karnataka carries out its essential functions.
Gowda’s Role as Deputy Chairman at SITK:
As the Vice Chairman of SITK, Gowda’s role is in fostering engagement and facilitating productive coordination among various government departments and external experts. How does SITK function:
The State Institute for Transformation of Karnataka creates plans and checks how well programs are doing. It formulates policy strategy and evaluates program outcomes by working with multiple departments to help Karnataka get better in terms of economy and society.
It has a special focus on helping Karnataka achieve various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Gowda’s Previous Roles and Responsibilities:
Gowda, recognized as a notable figure in public policy, economics, and academia, fulfilled the role of representing Karnataka in the Rajya Sabha between 2014 and 2020.
In addition to his previous roles, he also serves as the Chairman of the Indian National Congress’s Research Department. This pivotal position reflects his significant influence within the party’s organizational structure.
Furthermore, he assumes the role of a national spokesperson, effectively communicating the party’s stance on crucial matters to the public. Notably, he played a pivotal role as the convener of the party’s manifesto committee during the 2019 general election, contributing to shaping the party’s vision and priorities for the nation.
Gowda has held esteemed positions in academia and policy leadership. He assumed the role of Chairperson at the Centre for Public Policy and imparted his expertise as a Professor of Economics and Social Sciences at the esteemed Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore).
His deep involvement in economic and financial matters is further evident through his role on the central board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), where he contributed to crucial financial decision-making.
