Know All About Vikas Divyakirti Who Allegedly Insulted Goddess Sita

Founder of the Drishti IAS coaching centre and teacher Dr. Vikas Divyakirti has found himself in a controversy. A video is making rounds on social media which shows the teacher narrating a story from the ‘Ramayana’. In the story, the teacher drew a comparison between the goddess Sita and ghee licked by a dog. People have reacted on all social media platforms, and the hashtag ‘Ban Drishti IAS’ is trending all over.

Who is Vikas Divyakirti?

Vikas Divyakirti was born in Haryana. Born in a middle-class family, Divyakiriti and his family changed the city while he was still a kid. Both of his parents were academicians. To earn money in his childhood, he and his brother would indulge in painting. In an interview with Lallantop, Divyakirti also stated that he would make money by winning debate competitions.

Divyakirti has a bachelor’s degree in History from Zakir Hussain College of Delhi University. He has a master’s degree in Hindi and Sociology. Besides, the teacher also holds an M.Phil and a Ph.D. Given his love for filmmaking, Dr. Divyakirti has also secured a degree in filmmaking.

A UPSC aspirant, he cleared the Civil Service Examination in 1996 on his first attempt. Following the clearance, he was offered a job at the Union Ministry of Home Affairs with the Government of India. However, not being able to fit well there, Divyakirti left the job and established a coaching institute for UPSC aspirants in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi. The classes had branches in cities like Prayagraj and Jaipur.

Fight For The Students

A report by The Wire stated that the model answers for the Civil Services Aptitude Test were only available in English, which made it difficult to access students who had opted for their regional languages. Several aspirants considered this as a bias by the Committee. UPSC in their statement described this provision as an opportunity for the students to learn more. Dr. Divyakirti played a major role in voicing the side of the students.

Many of Dr. Divyakirti’s teaching videos are available online for free. The mock interviews conducted by Drishti IAS are particularly famous amongst the youth. The content is famous even with the non-aspirants. Indian actor Pankaj Tripathi has also stated that he watches the videos for improving his understanding of several issues.
