Singer Celine Dion has opened up about her diagnosis of Stiff-Person Syndrome. The French – Canadian singer is suffering from a rare neurological condition that makes the muscle spasm.
“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I have been going through…. It hurts me to tell you that I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February,” the singer said via an Instagram post.
What is Stiff Person Syndrome?
This condition is wherein progressive muscle stiffness and spasm, affect the axial muscle. Experts have suggested that this condition is a nervous system disorder. “It frequently affects women with a median onset of 35-40 years of age,” Dr. Mohan Krishna J, Yashoda Hospitals.
In a report by the Indian Express, Dr. Vipul Gupta from Gurugram stated that there is not much information about the condition yet. He also stated that the spasm might occur at a random time. The condition is reportedly triggered by emotional distress, touch, and loud noises.
Talking about how the condition is affecting the Grammy award-winning singer, she stated that the syndrome has affected every aspect of her daily life. She also opened up about the difficulty caused by the condition while walking and singing.
Symptoms
An individual’s sensitivity to noise is one of the syndromes. Besides, a sense of touch and emotional distress also affect the probability of a person having this condition. “SPS is known to affect the body posture of a person due to severe pain and stiffness in muscles in the torso, said Dr. Gupta.
