Two popular bureaucrats of Karnataka, Rohini Sindhuri and Roopa Moudgil are engaged in an ugly public fight that is not just putting their respective stature down but also defaming the institution of civil services in India. What is the scenario that went by? Here is the full story.

The splat started after photographs of Rohini Sindhuri, IAS (Commissioner of Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department), and JD(S) MLA from Mysuru’s Krishnarajanagara Sa Ra Mahesh sitting together in a restaurant emerged. When the photographs emerged, Roopa Moudgil (Managing Director, Karnataka Handicrafts Development Corporation), took to social media to question why an officer was in close with the politician. This has now descended into a full-blown fight between the two officers, with Rohini alleging that it was a false, personal vilification campaign.
Going back to 2021, when Rohini was posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru, she and the MLA had several spats, with both accusing each other of corruption. Roopa questions whether a compromise was stuck in this regard.
An Array of Allegations
In a detailed Facebook post on Saturday, Roopa listed various allegations against Rohini Sindhuri, accusing her of corruption and sending personal pictures to other IAS officers and politicians. The list of allegations includes:
- No Investigation was done on Rohini even after allegations of corruption.
- Sindhuri’s splat with Shilpa Nag has been called out wherein on n June 2021, Shilpa Nag and Rohini was transferred out of their posts after Shilpa held a press meet and accused Rohini of humiliating her. Rohini on the other hand alleged dereliction of duties by Shilpa.
- Roopa also raked up the deaths of 24 people at the Chamarajanagar government hospital due to a lack of oxygen during the pandemic. There were allegations then that Mysuru had not transported enough oxygen to Chamarajanagar.
- Roopa also questioned why Rohini built a swimming pool in her house in the middle of the pandemic.
Roopa also told the press that this is just the tip of the iceberg and there is so much that is not shown as of yet.
Rohini Sindhuri responded to the accusations and stated that “mental illness is a serious problem that requires treatment”. “When people in responsible positions suffer from mental illness, it becomes all the more dangerous. She has been driving a false, personal vilification campaign against me which is her standard modus operandi. She has done it in every place she has worked, including the current one which is an ex-cadre post.”
Rohini has added that the pictures shared by Roopa were screenshots picked from social media posts and WhatsApp statuses which have been falsely used to “scandalise” her. Rohini said that she will take legal and appropriate action against Roopa.

Rohini Sindhuri Dasari (born 30 May 1984) serves as an IAS officer from the Karnataka cadre and passed out in the 2009 batch. Sindhuri secured the 43rd rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination. She worked in various departments in her career as an IAS officer. She has been a part of many controversies. Her name came forward during the alleged murder of IAS office DK Ravi, her conflicts with JDS leaders and so much more.
