A section of Muslims has been accused of introducing a ‘New Custom’ while offering Namaz. As a result of the ruckus that was created, the police had to intervene to sort the matter, but the decision of the police authorities has not gone well with people online.

What Is The Issue About?
In the Lajpat Nagar region of Katghar, a neighbor complained of a Muslim congregation in a godown, where they were offering namaz together. The local Bajrang Dal unit (a right-wing outfit) was contacted, which directed the police to stop the ‘nayi parampara’.
The Taraweeh prayer was held in Zakir Hussain’s godown for three days. During the prayer, his family, neighbouring Muslims, and friends also joined in to read Taraweeh.

According to reports, the godown is located right below Zakir Hussain’s personal residence. The police authorities also talked about performing the Taraweeh prayers at the pre-decided religious places with the ‘old’ customs’. Reports also stated that the present people completed their Taraweeh while the police were present.

The event made it to the news when the state president of Bajrang Dal, Rohan Saxena, gathered outside the godown. The Bajrang Dal state president contacted the police authorities, who later told Zakir Hussain to not hold the Taraweeh prayers at the godown from Sunday.
Several factions of social media have criticised this event by citing the origin of the custom and the unconstitutionality of the police decision of asking the local Muslims to not perform the Taraweeh in the godown.
