In a shocking incident that has come to light, a 25-year-old woman was raped, tortured and allegedly forced to enter prostitution. In her statement, the woman claimed that the owner of an NGO and his two associates put her through this ordeal after she was promised a job. The woman was allegedly forced, tortured and beaten up to get into prostitution. She further accused that strangers, who were sent by the accused, gang-raped her in a lodge.
What did the accused do?
According to the woman, the accused had promised her a job at the NGO, Nav Bharat. However, under the pretext of a job, she was later taken to a lodge in Shivananda Circle where she was held against her will. The woman was raped, tortured and beaten to enter prostitution.
What did the police do?
The victim was able to call a friend to tell her about her ordeal. Acting swiftly, the Karnataka police raided the lodge where she was kept and they arrested the NGO owner and two of his associates. Moreover, the police have arrested Santhoshkumar (45), the owner of the lodge, Bhramendra Ravan (26), a resident of Kolar and K Lakshmi (36), a resident of Rajajinagar.
The police have filed charges in accordance with IPC Section 370 (buying any person as a slave) and the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956. They further stated that they will obtain a detailed statement from the victim regarding the allegation of gang rape while stating that have launched an investigation to arrest those who had gang-raped the woman.
