In Urdu, ‘Salaar’ translates to “leader,” “commander,” or “chief.” However, this term holds a special place in the hearts of Hyderabadis, evoking memories of a charismatic leader who once graced the city with his presence.

Born into a prominent family in Hyderabad to Abdul Wahed Owaisi, the then president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi emerged as a prominent figure advocating for the rights of the impoverished Muslims in the city. Salahuddin Owaisi’s popularity was evident in his electoral success. He secured a seat in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly as an MLA five times and represented Hyderabad in the Parliament as an MP six times. His political journey was marked by unwavering commitment to the welfare of the community he served.

In recognition of his immense contribution and beloved leadership, the people of Hyderabad bestowed upon him the title ‘Salaar-e-Millat,’ which translates to “Commander of the community.” Affectionately referred to as “Salaar,” Salahuddin Owaisi became a symbol of love and unity for the city’s residents. The title not only encapsulated his role as a leader but also reflected the deep connection he shared with the community.

The party’s enduring popularity in and around Hyderabad owes much to his efforts, leaving a lasting impact on the political landscape of the region. As ‘Salaar-e-Millat,’ he not only led the community but also inspired a sense of pride and belonging among its members.

As discussions about the film ‘Salaar’ gain momentum, it becomes evident that the title carries more than cinematic significance. It serves as a bridge between the reel and real, connecting the charisma of Prabhas’ character with the historical legacy of a leader who left an indelible mark on Hyderabad.
