The Delhi family court has finally granted divorce to Cricketer Satish Dhawan and his estranged wife Aesha Mukherji on grounds of cruelty towards Dhawan. They married in 2012 and have a son, Zoravar. They have been living separately for the entirety of their marriage as Aesha moved to Australia right after their marriage.

Dhawan filed for divorce in March after Aesha tried to force him to make her the sole owner of the properties the couple co-own in Australia. He stated that he has been subjected to cruelty from his wife as he was not able to live with his son as he is an Australian citizen. Throughout the entirety of their marriage, Shikhar has sent 13 Crores to Aesha because she wanted to take care of her Daughters. He has also paid for all her lavish expenses lifestyle through cards, school fees of kids, travel, hotels, etc. The Indian Cricketer in his divorce petition claimed that Aesha had promised to move back to India but was unable to do it as it meant giving up custody of her two daughters to her previous husband.

The court ruled out that, “He (Dhawan) for no fault of his own had been through immense agony and anguish of living separately from his own son for years. Even though the wife denied the allegation, submitting that she genuinely wanted to live in India with him, she did not choose to contest the claim. The respondent, by conducting herself in this manner, has inflicted such cruelty, agony, and trauma on him, that it was impossible for the petitioner to save the marriage.

“The respondent was required to prove that properties were purchased out of her fund as well or her name was included out of love and affection. Thus, Dhawan’s allegation that she compelled him to make her owner to some extent in all three properties or that she pocketed sale proceeds thereof has got to be believed as true.”
Despite Aesha earning huge amounts from the sale of a property, she reportedly circulated defamatory messages against Dhawan to his IPL franchise, Delhi Capitals CEO Dheeraj Malhotra. The court also rejected Aesha’s defense of these allegations. Aesha said that she texted only 3 of his friends to pressure Shikhar to send her the monthly payments. Regardless of all the money she received from the sale of a property she demanded 2.5 Million Australian Dollars(13 CRORES), all the properties in Australia to herself while keeping Zoravers custody in their mutual consent divorce. She kept delaying the divorce proceedings and did not appear in court even when shikhar agreed to her demands. Aesha did sent rebuttal to his divorce petition but it did not consist of any evidence that backed her claims whereas Shikhar provided documents for every allegation.

Shikhar is likely to take another legal action for the custody of his son Zoravar. The Court has asked Aesha to give Zoravers visitation rights to Shikhar but didn’t comment anything on custody as it understands that him being an Australian citizen, they can not adjudicate upon it. In an unprecedented move, the court has asked the Indian government to intervene to decide on the custody of Zoraver.
