What was the incident?
Ms Kumari was a student in grade 12 and was set on fire by her stalker, Shahrukh Hussain after she rejected his advances and turned him down. Due to her injuries, she passed away on Sunday, which sparked protests in the Dumka region. Moreover, communal tensions have allegedly flared up in the entire state due to this incident.
Did Ankita tell the police?
According to reports, Ms Kumari had informed the police that her neighbour and stalker used to harass and torment her on a daily basis. He used to come up to her and beg for her “friendship. Moreover, he frequently called her to build a relationship, and when Ankita told Shahrukh that she would take action against him, Shahrukh gave her a death threat.
What was the people’s reaction?
Many people took to the streets to express their anger and called for the accused to be punished as soon as possible. The administration implemented section 144 in the city to quell the protests. The police quickly arrested Shahrukh and a video was later circulated where he could be smiling and angering netizens.
