Suhasini comes from a filmy background as prominent actor is Kamal Hassan is her uncle. She is the cousin of Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan.

After completing schooling, she took admission in B.Sc Physics. However, one year later she left it and joined the Madras Film Institute to studying cinematography. She was the only girl at the Madras Film Institute to graduate in cinematography.

She entered into the film industry as a camera assistant and a make-up artist. She made her successful acting debut as a lead actress in the movie “Nenjathai Killathe” in 1980. She was just 21 years old and the film was a massive hit. She won the state award for her very first film!
