1.She is the Niece of Kamal Hassan

Suhasini comes from a filmy background as prominent actor is Kamal Hassan is her uncle. She is the cousin of Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan.

2.She Was the Only Girl at Madras Film Institute

After completing schooling, she took admission in B.Sc Physics. However, one year later she left it and joined the Madras Film Institute to studying cinematography. She was the only girl at the Madras Film Institute to graduate in cinematography.

3.Acting Career

She entered into the film industry as a camera assistant and a make-up artist. She made her successful acting debut as a lead actress in the movie “Nenjathai Killathe” in 1980. She was just 21 years old and the film was a massive hit. She won the state award for her very first film!

4.A Versatile Personality

Ms.Ratnam is predominantly known for her works in the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam movies. Apart from being a good actress, she is also a make-up artist, hair stylist, dialogue writer, singer, hostess, producer, and a film director as well.

5.Appearances as a Judge

She has been the jury member at many awards,shows and functions including the ninth Indian Film Festival at Stuttgart , Germany in 2012.

6.She has the least number of films in Tamil!

Despite being a Tamilian, Suhasini has the least number of films in Tamil and also the least success there. The sandalwood Telugu industry is where she got fame and glory.

7.She is a Director as Well

After giving some blockbusters like Sindhu Bhairavi, Himapatha, Koodevide and , she began with her directorial debut. She said in an interview that direction is something she always wanted to do since her childhood.

8.Her First Feature Film ‘Indira’ Won State Award

Her first directorial was an anthology called ‘Penn’ for Madras Doordarshan. While her directorial of the feature film ‘Indira’ bagged the state award.

9. She got married to director Mani Ratnam

She has married Tamil director Mani Ratnam in 1988 and also runs a production company with her husband.

10.She is a Notable Philanthropist

Suhasini is also known for her charitable ventures through her ‘Naam Foundation’ which aids underprivileged women.
