BJP MLA from Karnataka K S Eshwarappa has created havoc after his recent statements about Islam. The former Karnataka Minister asked whether Allah “was deaf” if his followers had to recite his name using microphones.
The event unfolded during BJP’s ongoing Vijay Sankalpa Yatra on March 12, 2023. While the BJP MLA was giving his speech, azaan (the Islamic call for prayer) was heard in the background. Eshwarappa said that Azaan was a headache for him, wherever he went. “There is a Supreme Court judge. Today or tomorrow, this (practice of calling azaan over mics) will definitely end,” said the former Minister attracting a huge cheer from the crowds.
“Prime Minister Modi says that we should respect every religion…Allah could only hear if you scream on the microphone?” asked the Shivamogga MLA.
“We also pray at temples. We chant shlokas and the women sing bhajans… In the entire world, the only country protecting dharma is Bharat Mata. But if they have to scream through the mic, then we have to say he (Allah) is deaf. There is no need (for azaan). So, I opine that this issue should be addressed at the earliest,” he said.
Eshwarappa has been in news for his communal comments in the past as well. In February 2022, the MLA blamed ‘Muslim goons’ for the murder of a Hindu activist in his region. Later he led a protest and was accused of triggering riots while doing so.”

Dear world leaders how can you tolerate this ?
This man has abused Allah. Abusing anybody’s belief is unforgivable.
Nothing lesser than a permanent suspension by the BJP is acceptable.… https://t.co/8maGmyX1tb pic.twitter.com/yMfXL4uZSD

Eshwarappa was forced to step down as a Minister from the Bommai government after a BJP contractor Santosh Patil named him in his suicide note. Patil accused the then minister of demanding a 40 percent commission to clear pending bills for works worth Rs. 4 crores.
Eshwarappa received a clean chit from the police during the investigation.
