Meet Savitri Jindal: From A Simple Home Maker To The Richest Woman Of India

Savitri Jindal, the wealthiest woman in India and the only woman businessperson to appear on the Forbes List 2023 is the chair emeritus of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, one of India’s top steel and power corporations. Jindal has a $ 17.4 billion net worth. She emerged from her husband’s shadow following his tragic death in 2005 and assumed control of the Jindal Group, carrying on her husband OP Jindal’s legacy. Her story is astounding. The firm experienced significant growth under Ms Jindal’s leadership, and Jindal Steel rose to become India’s third-largest steel producer.

Savitri Jindal’s Personal Life:

On March 20, 1950, Savitri Jindal was born. She was raised in the Assamese city of Tinsukia. In 1970, she wed Omprakash Jindal, who established the Jindal Group. Some sources claim that Savitri Jindal never attended college. According to Ms Jindal, the women in their family are primarily responsible for running the home and are not involved in the business.

In a Forbes interview, she said, “In our family, women do not venture out. We remain in charge of the house while the men take care of everything outside.” However, she did it without hesitation when the family asked her to step up and lead the Jindal Group.

From A Simple Home Maker To An Industrialist:

Savitri Jindal, a mother of nine kids, is renowned for her simplicity. She never participated in her husband’s business dealings because she prioritised her family. However, everything changed in 2005 after her husband died in a helicopter crash. She assumed management of the enterprises in 2005 and divided them among her four sons, who now run them independently.

Sajjan Jindal, located in Mumbai, oversees the group’s leading businesses, including JSW Steel. In the meantime, Jindal Steel & Power is run by Jindal’s younger son Naveen, who lives in Delhi.

The Political Journey:

Savitri Jindal is not just a successful businesswoman but also an influential politician. She is a member of the Congress Party and was elected in 2005 to represent the Hisar seat in Haryana as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). She served as the Haryana government’s Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster Management from 2005 to 2009.

She also served as a minister in the Haryana government from 2013 to 2015. Om Prakash Jindal, Savitri Jindal’s husband, served as a minister in the Haryana government and a representative for the Hisar district in the Haryana Legislative Assembly.
