Veerabadraiah informed the police that he originated from Sidahi taluk and had taken a bus from Bengaluru to Kundgol. He stated that he wore a burqa to beg, but his account failed to convince those who accused him of intending to obtain a complimentary bus ticket. The arrest took place after individuals present at the bus stop became suspicious of his presence and promptly informed the police.

However, law enforcement officers noted that the man appeared to be mentally unstable. Additionally, multiple media reports revealed that the man had a photocopy of a woman’s Aadhaar card in his possession. Authorities were uncertain whether the man had worn the burqa to take advantage of the free bus ride offered to women under the Shakti scheme.
A search was conducted, leading to the discovery of an Aadhaar card with a woman’s details. Witnesses claimed to have seen the man arriving from Laxmeshwar in Gadag district.
