The rise of the OTT platform in India has been widely recorded. It is common knowledge that cinema is not the whole and soul of the audio-video form of entertainment available to us. The long format of storytelling, more popularly known as web series has gained tremendous popularity in the last few years. 

The release of ‘Khakee – The Bihar Chapter’ on Netflix has brought back crime stories from the heartland of the countries, which have been successful over the years.

Here is the list of 5 underrated web series which blew our minds away

  • Human 

Having two strong female actors at the helm of a show is always a treat for the cine-goers. A medical drama at the surface, Human takes a deep dive into the dark world of corruption, deceit, and chaos in the medical field of the country. 

Directed by Vipul Shah and Mozez Singh, this show puts forth the topic of medical scams. 

  • Bose Dead or Live

Rajkumar Rao is regarded to be one of the finest actors in the country. Watching him straight for an extended period of over 6 hours was a treat to all his fans.

In ‘Bose – Dead or Alive, Rajkumar Rao tested his versatility by taking up the titular character, Indian Freedom Fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. The actor went through immense physical transformation for the role and succeeded in portraying the historical figure on the screen. 

  • Rangbaaz

A gangster story set in the backdrop of Bihar in the 1990s is a mouth-watering prospect for lovers of the crime genre. Starring sold actors in the form of Tigmanshu Dhulia, Ranvir Shorey, Ravi Kishan, Saqib Salim, Vineet Kumar Singh, Jimmy Shergill, and Gul Panag, this series adds an interesting nuance to the already existing list of crime thrillers from the heartland. 

Directed by Bhav Dhulia, the series is available on Zee 5

  • Out of Love

Based on a book named ‘Doctor Fester’, this series stars Rasika Duggal and Purab Kohli in the main roles. The series covers the journey of a wife who is on a quest to find out about her husband’s mistress. The series is divided into 2 seasons, with over 5-6 episodes.

The series premiered on Disney+ and Hotstar on 21 May 2021. 

  • Asur

Arshad Warsi, who is primarily known for his comic performances, surprised everyone with his acting in Asur. The story is about a chase between the authorities and a criminal. It is set against the backdrop of Indian mythology and thus adds the added element of curiosity to the series. 

This was Arshan Warsi’s debut in the digital space.
