The attack is said to have occurred in response to Mahajan’s coverage of the tragic rape and murder case of an eight-year-old girl, as well as his call for accountability and justice from both MLA Kishor Patil and Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

The Opposition has strongly denounced the heinous actions of the Shiv Sena MLA and his supporters, insisting on the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against MLA Kishor Patil and his associates. They further called for the swift apprehension of those individuals posing a threat to the journalist and his family. NCP MLA Rohit Pawar also joined in addressing the matter, highlighting that this incident underscores a lack of law and order in Maharashtra. He emphasized the vital role of the media as the fourth pillar of democracy, expressing dismay that such an assault occurred in broad daylight, simply because the media was fulfilling its duty by raising pertinent concerns. Pawar strongly condemned the disgraceful incident, advocating for immediate and decisive action to be taken.

Recently, a distressing incident occurred where an eight-year-old girl fell victim to rape by her 19-year-old neighbor, followed by a brutal assault using stones by the accused.
