In the last few years, Hombale films have had an impressive track record as far as critically acclaimed and commercially performing movies are concerned. The Karnataka-based production house has given a second life to the Kannada Film Industry which saw a dip in content and commerce in the last few decades.
While the rest of the country knew of Homable Films through KGF – 1, they had a positive reputation in the industry, even before that.
The name of the production house, is derived from a deity who is a form of the goddess Parvathi, Hombalamma. The relatively young production house started its journey in 2013, with Ninnindale, a movie starring power Puneeth Rajkumar.
The production house which has time and again catered to the entertainment quotient of the Kannada film audiences will enter its 10th year in 2023.
As the rest of the country, especially the Hindi Film Industry struggled to connect with the majority of the country. The hyperlocal movies made on the culture of Karnataka went global with the backing of Hombale films.
The KGF series was a revelation. Although the movie did not earn huge three-digit numbers at the box office in Hindi, it became a sensation following the OTT and satellite success. The hype set up for the sequel of the Yash starrer was massive which translated into an unimaginable success for the film. The movie went on to become the biggest hit in the Kannada film industry.
A major reason behind the unprecedented success of KGF 2 was the marketing strategy put in place by the Hombale films. Unlike ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, KGF 1 did not end on a cliffhanger. The movie looked like a complete movie in many aspects, however, the announcement of the sequel was the cherry on top. But what resulted in the massive success of the movie in the Hindi belt, where the opening day collection surpassed the lifetime collection of Part 1? It was the promotion of the movie.
Hombale films did not take their success for granted. The second part of KGF was massively promoted on several Indian platforms, and it gained tremendously from the massive buzz around the movie. While many in the Hindi circuit are still scratching their heads over the failed marketing strategy for Vikram Vedha, and the absence of it for Pathaan, Hombale films were spot on.
Even after giving the Kannada film industry its biggest hit of all time, Hombale films managed to give something even better, in a matter of a few months. Kantara and its success will be remembered and studied for several years. The movie, which was based in a small pocket of Karnataka and made on a budget of merely 16 crores earned big enough to cause a stir in the entire nation.
Hombale films have got a great lineup. The production house will be working with Yash on the third part of the successful KGF series. Prashant Neel is also making another movie with Hombale films, which stars Telugu and Malayalam superstars, Prabhas and Prithviraj. Besides, the production house will also be backing the ambitious NTR – Prashant Neel project.
