Zimbabwe defeated the former T20 World Champion in a nail-biting finish. Pakistan’s defeat at the hands of the African country has sent shock waves through their country, as it made it increasingly difficult for Pakistan to secure a position in the top two of their group.
The World Cup Game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground had made it to the headlines much before the first ball was thrown, and the reason was not Cricket. What started as a meme on Twitter took over the entire Cricket Twitter across the world and reached a point wherein the elected heads of the two respective countries took notice of c the same.
The Story
Pakistan Cricket Board posted a picture that showed their team practising. A Zimbabwean Twitter handles Ngugi Chasura replied, “As Zimbabweans, we won’t forgive you. You once gave us that Fraud Pak Bean instead of Mr. Bean Rowan. We will settle the matter tomorrow. Just pray that rain doesn’t save you”.
When a Pakistani account asked for an explanation, Chasura replied saying “they have us Pak Bean instead of Mr. Bean in one of our local events called “Agricultural show”. He also tweeted a picture of the ‘fake’ Mr. Bean and accused him of stealing people’s money.
This conversation soon went viral and several memes were flooding the social media accounts, especially those related to Cricket. Later videos of the ‘Fake’ Mr. Bean started to go rounds on social media and it was found out that a Pakistani comedian named Asif Muhammad, posed as a doppelganger for the real Mr. Bean.
The Aftermath
The upset at the World T20 caused this meme to become a global sensation. The Zimbabwean President tweeted after the famous victory and did not forget to mention the fake Mr. Bean.
What a win for Zimbabwe! Congratulations to the Chevrons.
Next time, send the real Mr Bean…#PakvsZim 🇿🇼
