Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s anticipated movie Bachchhan Paandey hit the screens today. The movie which had its production and release due to the lockdown came out on the occasion of Holi. The film opted for a theatrical release as the COVID restrictions have been lifted due to a drop in cases.

Akshay Kumar plays the role of Bachchhan Paandey, a dangerous gangster and the film has Kriti Sanon playing an aspiring film director. Also starring Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Pankaj Tripathi and Prateik Babbar. The movie is directed by Farhad Samji and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

A section of Netizens however is expressing their anger on the Bollywood Superstar and the film for being Anti-Hindu and Anti-Brahmin. Because of this they are trending #BoycottBachchanPandey and urging people to not watch the film or watch the last week’s release, ‘The Kashmir Files’ instead.

The film’s tagline, ‘Holi par Goli’ too have ruffed up the feathers of netizens who accused the creators of defaming the festival of colours. Furthermore, some sections are accusing Director Farhad Samji of spreading Hinduphobia as he belongs to the Muslim Community.

Another reason why #BoycottBachchhanPandey is trending is that the lead character which is a gangster role is named Bachchhan ‘Pandey’. The surname Pandey belongs to the Brahmin community and hence members of the community have accused the makers to be Anti-Brahmin.

Netizens also have dug up past statements of Akshay Kumar and are attributing them to be hinduphobic in nature too. While other sets of fans have asked Bollywood to make their content and not remake hits from the South Indian Industry.
