BJP’s National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya Tweaks After Making Comment on Agniveers

After saying that he would hire Agniveer for security outside the BJP office, BJP’s National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya said that his comments were distorted by Twitter’s ‘toolkit gang’.

His comments, made yesterday, drew harsh criticism from his own party’s leader Varun Gandhi who said that joining the army is not an ordinary job but ” a service to the Mother Bharati”.

“The great army, whose heroic tales even the whole dictionary is insufficient to tell, whose valor resonates in the whole world; an invitation to that Indian soldier to do ‘Chowkidari’ of a political office, congratulations to the person who gave it,” He added.

Mr. Kailash was addressing a press conference ahead of the local body polls in Madhya Pradesh, where he praised the scheme, adding that it would give a lot of benefits to those who are not retained under the scheme provisions.
“Discipline and obeying orders are key in the armed forces… Assuming that he (Agniveer) joins the armed forces at the age of 21, he will still be 25 by the time he leaves the force. He will have Rs 11 lakh cash in his hand. He will also be displaying the Agniveer medal on his chest.” He added, “If I have to hire someone for the security for the BJP office here, I will give a preference to an Agniveer.”

Vijayvargiya said that the ‘toolkit gang’ was trying to distort his statement and insult workers of the country. “What I clearly meant was: Agniveer who came out of the Agnipath Yojana will definitely be trained and committed to duty … The nation is well aware of the conspiracies of this toolkit gang against the national heroes,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Congress lost no time in slamming the BJP. Former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet, “The youth have a zeal to join the army to protect the country and not for protecting BJP offices by becoming chowkidar.”

The government had last Tuesday announced the Agnipath scheme and those recruited under it will be called ‘Agniveer’. The scheme announced has faced flak from several opposition leaders and has been met by widespread protests across the country.
