Andhra Train Crash: 14 dead, 50 injured; Human Error Suspected

The tragic train accident in Andhra Pradesh has led to the loss of 14 lives, as per the latest report by some sources , with the number of casualties likely to rise. Vizianagaram Joint Collector Mayur Ashok has stated that while seven of the deceased have been identified, efforts to identify the remaining victims are currently ongoing. Additionally, a total of 54 individuals have sustained injuries, with 39 of them receiving treatment at Vizianagaram hospital, and the rest at other medical facilities.

Updates on the rescue operation have been shared by Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, providing insights into the ongoing efforts to manage the aftermath of the tragic incident. Notably, a significant number of coaches from the affected trains have been cleared from the site, as affirmed in his recent social media post.

Initial investigations suggest that the collision may have been a result of human error, with the Visakhapatnam-Rayagada train allegedly overshooting a signal. The Ministry of Railways has announced the diversion, cancellation, and short termination of multiple train services across the country following the accident, as detailed in official bulletins.Prime Minister Narendra Modi has personally overseen the situation, extending his condolences to the affected families and directing authorities to provide necessary assistance.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has initiated immediate relief measures, dispatching ambulances and ensuring adequate arrangements in nearby hospitals to facilitate prompt medical care for the injured. The Chief Minister has announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased from Andhra Pradesh and Rs 2 lakh for those from other states. Furthermore, the Prime Minister has pledged financial aid from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the affected families. The Ministry of Railways has established helpline numbers and dispatched accident relief trains and rescue equipment to support the ongoing operations.

Emergency workers and volunteers have been tirelessly engaged in locating and rescuing passengers trapped in the wreckage, despite encountering obstacles such as disrupted electric lines at the accident site.
