In a bizarre case, a couple from Uttarakhand has decided to sue their son and daughter-in-law for Rs 5 crores as they failed to bear children despite being married for six years.
The parents are upset because their son and daughter-in-law tied a knot six years ago in 2016 but they still have not had grandchildren. While talking with ANI, the father said, “They were wedded in 2016 in hopes of having grandchildren. We didn’t care about gender, just wanted a grandchild.”

He complained that he had no money left as he spent all of it on educating his son in the US. He further said, “I gave my son all my money, got him trained in America. I don’t have any money now. We have taken a loan from the bank to build a home. We’re troubled financially and personally. We have demanded ₹ 2.5 crores each from my son and daughter-in-law in our petition.”
Advocate AK Srivastava, the lawyer representing the parents, has said that the plight of his clients portrays the truth of society. While speaking with reporters, Mr Srivastava said, We invest in our children, make them capable of working in good firms. Children owe their parents basic financial care. The parents have demanded either a grandchild within a year or compensation of Rs 5 crore.”

Many believe that although Indian families put pressure on their children to bear children, the couple has taken it too far for demanding grandchildren.
