Movies are one of the best mediums to showcase emotions, story-telling and so on. Its audiovisual elements have had a greater impact on the audience than any other form of mass communication. That being said, here 7 Indian movies that will definitely inspire the patriot in you!

  • Border:

A movie by JP Dutt, Border talks about the Longhewalla battle which took place during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. In the movie, we get to see Sunny Deol’s dhai kilo ka hath destroying the enemy Pakistani soldiers with the help of a bazooka! Now, where will you get to watch this top-notch content?! Border clearly gives us that goosebumps!

  • Rang de Basanti:

In a movie by Rayesh Omprakash Mehra, Rang de Basanti takes a look at how far a few college students will go for their motherland and country. The film eloquently depicts how the country’s youth are instilled with patriotism, and it is not unlike pre-independence India.

  • Lagaan:

Oh, how we hate the colonial British for looting us and oppressing us. If you want to see how a few illiterate village Indians beat the British at their own game, Lagaan is for you. The movie has beautifully depicted the politics during the British Raj, the taxation policy of the British and of course we having fun while the villagers beat the British officers during a game of cricket. This movie will surely inspire and make you feel proud of the struggles of the freedom fighters.

  • Roja:

While Bollywood has dominated the film industry in the North, movies from South India clearly have given a good competition in this genre. Roja is a landmark film created by Kavithalayaa Productions. It is a Tamil-language romantic thriller where a wife goes to lengths to free her husband. Her husband is an intelligence officer for the Indian Army who has been kidnapped by Kashmiri terrorists. This movie is one of the few movies that have been created in the backdrop of the Kashmiri Pandit Exodus. This movie will definitely make you feel proud of how the Indian army and its analysts operate in the volatile region. 

  • Alluri Seetharama Raju:

It is a biographical film produced in 1974 by Padmalya Studios. The movie is in Telegu and is based on the life of Alluri Seetharama Raju. He is one of the most iconic 20th-century revolutionaries who fought an armed rebellion against the British Raj. He and his band of rebels valiantly fought against the British because they had violated their land rights and used the locals as forced labour. This movie will surely fill you with pride and educate you on how lesser-known figures have fought against the British. 

  • Keerthi Chakra:

Written in Malayalam, Keerthi Chakra was a critically acclaimed movie and it was commercially well received. It has been written and directed by Major Ravi and produced by Super Good Films. The movie talks about the incidents that took place in Jammu and Kashmir. In the movie, the protagonist has to fight militants in the region and how they deal with various surprises. The movie has beautifully depicted the life of National Security Guards in the region. The movie will make you feel proud of their bravery. 

  • Muthina Haara:

A Kannada movie produced by S.V. Rajendra Singh Babu, shows how wars can tragically destroy the family bond of the soldiers. The core plot of the film is partially based on Ernest Hemingway’s novel, A Farwell to Arms. The movie has done a wonderful job to show an angle that has been rarely ventured. The hardships of the soldiers that the movie has shown are moving and fill you with pride.

  • Haqeeqat:

If one wants to know and understand how the Chinese betrayed us in 1962, this movie beautifully depicts it. The film depicts how the slogan “Hindi-Chini Bhai Bhai” was mocked by the Chinese. The movie was directed and produced by the legendary filmmaker Chetan Anand. Haqeeqat shows us how the Indian army bravely countered the Chinese invasion with great difficulties and how the Chinese faced tremendous losses. Although we had lost the war, this movie shall live on forever.
